RQM - CTD Data From the Winter Concerted Mission Aboard the CCGS Amundsen (MOH2018): Odyssée Saint-Laurent 2018

The 2018 concerted winter mission, funded by the Réseau Québec maritime (RQM)'s St. Lawrence Odyssey program, was the program's first winter oceanographic mission aboard the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker CCGS Amundsen. Its aim was to gather scientific knowledge essential to understanding and managing the St. Lawrence River and Gulf during winter. The mission resulted in the acquisition of a wide range of multidisciplinary data for 7 research projects.

Vertical profiles of CTD data (conductivity, temperature, depth) were taken in the water column at 16 stations spread over a transect of more than 2,400 km, from the St. Lawrence Estuary at the level of the Ile aux Grues, to the Gulf of St. Lawrence north of the Îles de la Madeleine. These profiles were built from around 10 m below the surface to a maximum distance of around 2 m from the seabed. They incorporate direct measurements of seawater temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, irradiance, fluorescence, and turbidity. Discrete water samples were taken at different stations and depths to compare CTD's direct measurements with laboratory analyses of dissolved oxygen concentration (Winkler chemical titration), chlorophyll a concentration and salinity (Autosal salinometer 8400B). These comparisons were used to adjust the calibration of CTD data for dissolved oxygen, fluorescence and salinity.
