On Anticosti Island, at the level of Cap Blanc, an old landfill dating from before the municipalization of the island is undergoing severe erosion causing direct dumping of waste into the St. Lawrence River. Located on public lands, this landfill is in the middle of a coastal erosion zone (MRC de la Minganie). To solve this problem, the Comité ZIP Côte-Nord du Golfe (ZIP CNG) proposed a restoration project in two phases, the first of which, the feasibility study was completed in 2015. At the end of this first phase, the feasibility study resulted in a field intervention plan in order to ensure the stabilization of the shore, the restoration of the shoreline, the cleaning of the beach and the removal of waste in the embankment and in the shoreline. It also made it possible to better assess the real costs associated with this major work and includes engineering plans.
