This research project is an initiative of the Standing Committee on Quebec Fishing Vessels Safety (CPSBPQ). This research was made possible thanks to the collaboration and support of Quebec region’s Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security direction, the main partner in the project. It was also produced with the financial support of the Réseau Québec Maritime (RQM).
The study draws a picture of the causes and risk factors at the origin of accidental events involving fishing vessels, the types of injuries suffered by professional fishermen and their costs as well as the level of safety culture reached by the various fleets of the commercial fishing industry in Quebec. The study was carried out with 101 captains and 52 crew members.
