Comité ZIP Côte-Nord

The Comité ZIP Côte-Nord du Golfe is a non-profit organization that is part of a network of 13 ZIP committees across Québec. Founded in 1996, it was the 10th ZIP committee to be formed. Like all ZIP committees, it is an organization that brings together various stakeholders: businesses, citizens, environmental groups, municipalities and social organizations. Its members have as common objectives to protect and enhance the St. Lawrence, to raise awareness of environmental issues and to encourage concrete actions for the ecological rehabilitation of the river.

The territory of the Comité ZIP Côte-Nord du Golfe extends from the Calumet River, west of Port-Cartier to Blanc-Sablon, including Anticosti Island.

Let's Protect the St. Lawrence River Before It Gets Hot!

The Comité ZIP Côte-Nord du Golfe (ZIP CNG) wanted to raise awareness among 1st and 2nd year high school students on the North Shore of the problem of climate change. In 2011, a classroom educational activity was offered to teachers in the Science and Technology program of French-speaking high schools in the Middle North Shore and Lower North Shore in the form of a board game about the impacts of climate change in the Gulf of St. Lawrence: "Let's protect the St. Lawrence before it gets hot!" For this purpose, an educational kit, including the board game, the student notebook, the teacher's notebook and the questionnaire, was produced for each of the schools and delivered when the classroom activity was carried out.
