COR1404 MARGES Expedition in the San Jorge Gulf in 2014: Marine Geology Data, Sediment Characterization

COR1404 MARGES Expedition took place from February 17th to March 4th 2014 on board the research vessel (R/V) Coriolis II. The general objective was to perform detailed geophysical surveys, and to collect different types of sediment samples in the San Jorge Gulf and adjacent continental shelf edge-upper slope area (Argentina).

This dataset includes sample locations and high-resolution images of the cores (CT-scan and photo). Different sediment properties were analyzed:

Physical properties: spectrophotometry (L a b, RGB, XYZ, Munsell color), gamma density, P-wave velocity and amplitude, fractional porosity, resistivity and impedance.

Magnetic properties: magnetic susceptibility.

Chemical properties: X-ray fluorescence, 14C isotopic dating.

Limitations: The MSCL (Multi-Sensor Core Logger) data may have some irregularities for values at the beginning and the end of each core section or there may be blank intervals due to sediment-free spaces.
